Ghanaian defender Oscar Naasei Oppong has reportedly chosen Real Madrid despite receiving strong interest from a German club.
Real Madrid have reached an agreement with Granada to sign the 21-year-old for a reported fee of about €2 million.
Naasei has completed his medical, according to transfer reports. The deal is now awaiting official confirmation from the two clubs.
Reports say the opportunity to join Real Madrid was a childhood dream for the Accra-born defender. This influenced his decision to choose the Spanish giants over the unnamed German club.
Naasei is expected to start with Real Madrid Castilla, the club’s reserve team.
The reported agreement will initially run for two years. It could be extended to five years if Naasei earns promotion to the senior team.
Real Madrid reportedly see the Ghanaian as a talented defender who could develop into a future first-team player.
Naasei stands 1.85 metres tall and can play as a centre-back or right-back. He is known for his physical strength, speed and ability in the air.
He began his football career with Emmanuel City Football Academy in Ghana.
Naasei moved to Granada’s youth team in 2023 and quickly progressed through the club’s different levels.
He played for Granada C and the reserve team before making his senior debut in October 2024.
The defender has also earned the trust of Granada coach Pacheta. He featured in the club’s opening two league matches of the 2026/27 season.
Naasei’s performances earned him a call-up to Ghana’s senior national team. He made his Black Stars debut during preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Real Madrid had monitored him since last season. The club increased its efforts this summer and reportedly beat Rayo Vallecano and an unnamed German team to his signature.
Neither Real Madrid nor Granada has officially announced the transfer at the time of publication.
