Police in Ogun State have restarted a traffic enforcement operation across all 20 Local Government Areas to crack down on traffic violations, improve road safety and keep traffic flowing smoothly on major highways.
The operation targets drivers breaking traffic rules in ways that put people at risk or create security problems on main roads.
Officers will look for one-way driving, reckless driving, misuse of emergency sirens, and vehicles with missing, fake or covered license plates.
They’ll also check for drivers without valid licenses, overloaded vehicles and parking that blocks traffic flow.
The police commissioner told commanders across the state to make sure the operation runs properly.
All officers involved need to be briefed and supervised closely so enforcement happens professionally and respects people’s rights.
He warned officers not to use the operation as cover for misconduct.
There’s to be no extortion, illegal detention, harassment or wrongfully impounding vehicles and documents.
Officers caught taking bribes, intimidating people or engaging in other bad behavior will face discipline.
Supervisors will be held responsible for how their officers act during the operation.
The police are asking drivers, transport companies and workers to follow traffic rules and cooperate with officers.
The public should not try to bribe officers or offer them anything to avoid being sanctioned.
Police say they’re committed to running this professionally while getting residents’ help to make roads safer across the state.
