Osun poll: Police invite Senator Fadahunsi over ‘kill Accord members’ comment

The Osun State Police Command has summoned Francis Fadahunsi, senator representing Osun East Senatorial District, over his viral comment allegedly directing supporters to “kill” members of the Accord Party.

The invitation followed widespread criticism of remarks attributed to the All Progressives Congress (APC) senator during a campaign rally in Ilesa on Tuesday.

In a letter dated August 11, 2026, the police asked Fadahunsi to appear before the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Osogbo to clarify the circumstances surrounding the statement.

The invitation, signed by Samuel Etaifo Erale, Commissioner of Police, Elections, in Osun State, directed the senator to report at 11am on Wednesday, August 12.

“The invitation is premised on information in possession of the Nigeria Police alleging that during your address at the aforementioned programme, you made statements considered to be threatening, inciting and intimidating in nature, and the statement has already been in circulation on various electronic and social media platforms,” the document reads.

In a video circulated on X on Tuesday, Fadahunsi, speaking in Yoruba, was heard urging APC supporters to “kill” members of the Accord Party.

“From now on, whenever you see Accord members, kill them. I authorise you to kill them. They have wives and children too,” Fadahunsi had said.

The remarks sparked backlash, prompting the senator to clarify his position and deny any intention to encourage violence against political opponents.

His media team described the statement as “a call on supporters to overwhelmingly reject the Accord Party at the ballot box through lawful, peaceful and democratic means during the August 15 governorship election”.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the Senator’s statement was purely political and metaphorical,” his team said in a statement titled “Kill Osun Accord with Votes, Not Violence”.

The invitation comes amid heightened political tension ahead of the August 15 governorship election, with rival parties trading accusations of violence and intimidation.

The incumbent governor, Ademola Adeleke, who is seeking re-election on the Accord platform, has repeatedly accused the APC of using thugs to attack his supporters.
