Oyo APC Fires Back at Makinde Over 2027 Presidential Ambition

Oyo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has alleged that Governor Seyi Makinde would have disposed of national assets for personal gain had he held the presidency in the same manner as President Bola Tinubu currently exercises executive authority.

The allegation came as the APC responded to recent remarks made by Makinde, who stated his intention to challenge Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.

The APC drew a sharp contrast between the two leaders, characterising the differences in their approaches to governance as fundamental.

The party asserted that Nigeria was fortunate not to have elected Makinde to the presidency in 2023, arguing that public criticism of Tinubu’s economic policies would not sway voters toward a candidate who, the APC contends, has mismanaged state resources.

According to the APC Publicity Secretary, Makinde has transferred virtually all assets of Oyo State to undesignated parties in exchange for cash over his seven years in office.

The APC further contended that had Makinde possessed the opportunity, he would have sold national water resources and territorial assets.

The party dismissed criticisms of Tinubu’s economic measures as politically motivated rhetoric, noting that informed analysis and reputable global institutions have affirmed the President’s handling of economic crisis, crediting his administration with preventing national collapse and restoring Nigeria’s international standing.

The party warned voters against entrusting Makinde with national leadership, citing his record in state governance.
