TUC, ASCSN Commend Okpebholo Over Odior’s Appointment as EIRS Chairman

The Edo State Council of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) and the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (ASCSN) Edo State Branch have commended Governor Monday Okpebholo for appointing Mr. John Odior as the Executive Chairman of the Edo State Internal Revenue Service (EIRS), describing the appointment as a well-deserved fit for the agency’s leadership.

​The commendation was delivered by the State Chairman of the TUC and ASCSN, Comrade Joseph James Wasa, who led other affiliates and executive members on a courtesy visit to the EIRS Corporate Head Office in Benin City to formally congratulate the revenue boss.

​Comrade Wasa expressed strong confidence in Mr. Odior’s capacity to steer the agency toward greater heights, praising the Governor’s foresight in choosing a proven professional.

He highlighted the Chairman’s track record of integrity, transparency, and administrative efficiency, noting that his tenure has already yielded visible improvements. Among these achievements are the prompt payment of staff salaries, the regularization of ad-hoc personnel, upgraded office facilities, the provision of modern work tools, and a sustained increase in the state’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).

According to Wasa “We are here to formally congratulate you on your new role as Chairman of the Revenue Service. When we heard of the news of your appointment, we were enthused due to the confidence we have on your abilities to deliver on the job. Even those who watch you from afar can attest that you are a very diligent person and a square peg in a square hole. We thank Mr. Governor for appointing you.”

“You have continued to exhibit strong character of integrity, transparency, honesty and encouragement through prompt payment of staff salaries, absorption of adhoc staff, ensuring Office facelift, provision of work tools for staff as well as consistent increase in the State internally generated revenue (IGR)”.

​Reaffirming the union’s commitment to constructive engagement, Comrade Wasa emphasized that the TUC prioritizes dialogue and collaboration to resolve labor disputes and foster workplace harmony. He further urged the revenue service to deepen public tax education through targeted media campaigns on radio and television to boost voluntary compliance.

​In his response, the EIRS Executive Chairman, Mr. John Odior (FCA, ACTI), thanked the labor delegation for their visit and reiterated his administration’s commitment to reform, operational excellence, and robust revenue growth. He called on union leaders to motivate their members toward dedicated service, stressing that workforce efficiency remains vital to building a sustainable tax administration and driving Edo State’s financial development.
