Oyo Deepens Security Partnership With Defence Intelligence College

Oyo State’s Acting Governor has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to working closely with defence institutions to protect lives and property.

The statement came during a visit from the Commandant and participants of the Advanced Defence Intelligence Officers’ Course from the Defence Intelligence College.

The Acting Governor, speaking through the Secretary to the State Government, praised the Defence Intelligence College as an institution that plays a vital role in strengthening Nigeria’s security and intelligence capabilities.

He said Oyo views security as the foundation for economic growth, investment, education and the wellbeing of its people.

The Makinde administration has worked to improve the state’s security by encouraging different agencies to work together, sharing intelligence information, investing in surveillance and communication systems, and engaging communities.

The Acting Governor acknowledged that security threats keep changing, with kidnapping, banditry, criminal networks and cyber crimes requiring constant improvement in how the state responds.

He expressed the state government’s readiness to deepen collaboration with the Nigerian Armed Forces and other security agencies in areas like intelligence gathering, early warning systems, information sharing and community-based security efforts.

The Acting Governor urged the visiting officers to approach their study tour with open minds and share their findings with the state.

He reminded them that their job goes beyond learning professional skills.

Their real duty is to protect lives, keep the country united and create a peaceful environment where people can live and work safely.

The Commandant of the Defence Intelligence College explained that the delegation was in Oyo as part of a National Study Tour, which is the field component of their advanced course.

The five-to-six-month programme combines classroom work with real-world exposure so officers can identify problems and provide practical solutions for intelligence and security work.

The commandant said the tour allows officers to engage with security agencies and learn from how the state government has responded to recent security incidents.

He expressed thanks for the governor’s support of security operations and promised that findings from the tour would be shared with state governments and security agencies across the country.
