Insecurity: “Why we pray for Nigeria every day” – Ghanaian President Mahama

The President of Ghana, John Mahama has said that he prays every day for Nigeria to surmount the growing level of insecurity in the country.

Speaking on the incessant killings and level of insecurity following the activities of terrorists and bandits in the country, Mahama said the future of the African continent depends on Nigeria’s survival.

Mahama said this while addressing participants during an award ceremony in Ghana.

According to him, Ghana will be heavily affected should Nigerians in their millions begin to migrate to the country.

He said the insecurity issues faced by Nigeria also pose a huge challenge for Ghana and the African continent as a whole.

“Nigeria is of keen security interest to us, if Nigeria does well, Ghana does well.

“I mean, when you have cousins, 250 million of them, you’ll want them to do well so that one million of them don’t come drifting towards a small country like Ghana,” Mahama said.

“So every day I wake up, I pray for Nigeria, I say “God, let Nigeria get their act together.

“And so I remember when a lot of people in Ghana migrated from Nigeria, they found their roots in the Yoruba Kingdom and all of that,” he added.

The remark by the Ghanaian president comes days after the Nigerian Military suffered grave losses in the nation’s fight against insurgents in the Northeast region of the country.

Also, in a quick visit to Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, Vice President Kashim Shettima condoled with the Nigerian Army over the latest attacks that led to the killing of Brigadier General Oseni Braimah and other soldiers of the force.

Representing President Bola Tinubu, the vice president commended the Nigerian military and its personnel for their sacrifices towards the protection of the lives and property of citizens.

Shettima had said, “These men wore the uniform for all of us. They stood to protect our communities, our families, and the future of our children.

“Their courage reminds us that peace and security often come at a very heavy cost,” the VP noted.
