2027: Action Alliance picks presidential candidate

The Action Alliance has nominated its National Chairman, Adekunle Rufai Omoaje, as its presidential candidate for the 2027 general election, formally positioning the party in the race for Nigeria’s highest office.

Omoaje, a grassroots politician from Ede in Osun State, accepted the nomination at a ceremony in Abuja on Saturday, where he pledged to provide purposeful leadership and strengthen the party’s agenda on good governance, unity and national development.

Speaking after his nomination, Omoaje described the development as a collective victory for party members, dedicating the moment to God, his family and supporters nationwide.

“First and foremost, I give all glory, honour and praise to Almighty God. His grace, mercy and unfailing guidance have brought us to this remarkable moment,” he said.

He added: “God remains our strength through every challenge and every victory.”

Omoaje also thanked his family for their support throughout what he described as a demanding political and legal journey, noting that their prayers and sacrifices sustained him.

He said the nomination reflected the resilience of party members rather than personal achievement.

“This nomination is not a personal achievement; it is a collective victory for every dedicated member who remained loyal to the ideals and vision of our party, even in difficult times,” he said.

The AA chairman also commended journalists and media organisations for their coverage of the party’s legal disputes, saying their commitment to fairness and truth had strengthened democratic practice.

He further acknowledged the role of legal practitioner Prof. Amupitan, praising his professionalism during the party’s internal and judicial processes.

“Your commitment to justice and the rule of law will always be remembered,” Omoaje said.

He also commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for complying with court judgments and upholding the rule of law, adding that respect for judicial decisions is essential to democratic stability.

According to him, adherence to the rule of law strengthens public confidence in democratic institutions.

Omoaje expressed appreciation to party supporters who remained loyal during legal and political disputes, saying their commitment demonstrated that truth and justice would prevail.

Outlining his vision, he pledged to run a government anchored on integrity, fairness and national renewal if elected in 2027.

“This is not the end of a struggle; it is the beginning of a greater mission,” he said.

He urged party members to remain united ahead of the elections, expressing confidence that the Action Alliance could present Nigerians with a credible alternative in 2027.

The Action Alliance has faced internal leadership and legal disputes in recent years, with court cases over the party’s leadership structure. Omoaje has consistently maintained that judicial rulings affirmed his position as National Chairman.

With his emergence, the AA becomes one of the early political parties to formally unveil a presidential candidate ahead of the 2027 general election as political activity gathers momentum nationwide.
