2027: Jang congratulates Plateau PDP over gov primary, backs Biggs

A former Governor of Plateau State and elder statesman, Jonah David Jang, has congratulated the Peoples Democratic Party for the “smooth conduct” of its primary elections across Nigeria, including Plateau State, describing the exercise as a demonstration of the party’s commitment to democracy.

In a statement issued on Friday by his media consultant, Clinton Garuba, Jang said the Plateau PDP primary that produced Sunday Garba Biggs as governorship flagbearer for the 2027 election was “a testament to the top-level organisation, coordination and unity within the PDP.”

“There is no doubt, the difference in approach, planning and execution as witnessed during the primary elections of the PDP and those of the other political parties was like night and day,” Jang stated.

He contrasted the PDP process with what he described as “imposition and impunity, where the people’s wishes are jettisoned at the altar of parochial interests, and results merely written in hotel rooms despite ‘elections’ holding on the fields.”

The former governor urged members operating as factional groups within the party to reconsider and prioritise the collective interest.

“Senator Dr. Jonah David Jang wishes to call on individuals who are going about as factional members of the Peoples Democratic Party to think twice and put the interest of the party and Nigerians above personal interests, for the PDP in Plateau State is one under the leadership of Chief Raymond Dabo and will continue to remain united,” the statement read.

Jang also called on Nigerians to maintain faith in the PDP, which he said “has demonstrated over time its commitment to put the citizens first,” adding that “there is light at the end of the tunnel despite the current realities being faced in the country.”

Looking ahead to 2027, the former governor advised Plateau voters to remain determined and vigilant.

“Sen. Jang believes that for Plateau people to elect the leaders of their choice, it is imperative to stay determined, maintain vigilance and prepare to defend their votes in the next election cycle as they did in the 2023 general election,” the statement concluded.
