2027: Kogi East APC leaders back Tinubu for re-election

Leaders and stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress in Kogi East have declared their support for the re-election of President Bola Tinubu and Senator Jibrin Isah, popularly known as Echocho, ahead of the 2027 general elections, citing what they described as the senator’s impactful constituency projects and grassroots interventions across the district.

The endorsement was contained in a statement issued on Friday by the group’s representative, Ibrahim Mohammed, who said Sen Echocho’s performance in office had strengthened the APC’s standing in Kogi East and positioned the party for another strong electoral outing in the zone.

According to the stakeholders, the senator’s developmental initiatives in education, agriculture, and rural infrastructure have resonated with constituents and would form a major part of the party’s campaign message ahead of the next election cycle.

“We will mobilise massive support for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Sen Jibrin Isah Echocho, whose developmental track record across Kogi East remains our strongest campaign tool,” the statement read.

The group highlighted several projects executed by the senator, particularly in the education sector, including the donation of school buses, renovation of schools, and the distribution of learning materials to schools across the senatorial district.

They also cited the distribution of farming equipment to farmers, financial support for vulnerable residents, and other social intervention programmes aimed at improving livelihoods within the district.

According to the stakeholders, the provision of boreholes and electricity transformers in several communities reflects the broader objectives of President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which the APC says is focused on economic recovery, infrastructure development, and social welfare.

“Sen Echocho’s performance has made our job easier. By showcasing these tangible projects, we are confident that the people of Kogi East will stand with the APC and President Tinubu to continue the journey of national development,” the statement added.

Sen Isah represents Kogi East Senatorial District in the National Assembly and is currently serving his second term in the Senate on the APC platform. The district, which comprises nine local government areas, remains one of the key political blocs in Kogi State due to its voting strength and strategic influence in state politics.

President Tinubu, who assumed office on May 29, 2023, has repeatedly defended his administration’s economic reforms, including the removal of fuel subsidy and the unification of the foreign exchange market, describing them as necessary steps to stabilise the economy and attract investment.

However, the reforms have also triggered sharp increases in the cost of living, drawing criticism from opposition parties, labour unions, and civil society groups who argue that Nigerians are bearing the burden of difficult economic policies.

Against this backdrop, APC leaders in Kogi East said they remain optimistic that the achievements recorded by both the Tinubu administration and Sen Echocho would strengthen public support for the party ahead of the next general elections.

The stakeholders reaffirmed their commitment to grassroots mobilisation and expressed confidence that the APC would secure victory in Kogi East in 2027.
