APC Primaries: No consensus governorship candidate in Lagos, aspirant tackles naysayers
By Olayinka Ajayi
Governorship aspirant ahead of the All Progressives Congress primaries, Otunba Olarenwaju Jim-Kamal, has urged naysayers to desist from calling the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Obafemi Hamzat, the consensus governorship candidate.
Jim-Kamal, while addressing newsmen in Lagos insisted that the Electoral Act 2026 ruled out room for anointed candidate.
He explained that President Tinubu did not anoint anybody as the next governor of the state.
According to him, “I have absolute respect for the party and President Bola Tinubu. Immediately he was sworn in, he said he would not push for anybody because he knew there would be bad blood if he did not allow direct primaries.
“The House of Reps primaries proved to the party that the mighty and the anointed candidates have fallen.
“It’s unfortunate that they are just using the media to deceive most people. We are aware of what happened in Èpe when the Deputy Governor went there.
“Even the claim that Governing Advisory Council, GAC, members endorsed him was false. It was only five out of the whole members that gave him their blessings.
“So there’s nothing like a consensus candidate; we are all going for the primaries.
“The beauty of democracy is to have a level playing field for everybody.”
