Dangote Refinery cuts Jet A1 price to ₦1,650 per litre

Dangote Petroleum Refinery has reduced the ex-depot price of aviation fuel, also known as Jet A1, from ₦1,750 to ₦1,650 per litre in a move aimed at easing pressure on Nigeria’s aviation industry.

The refinery announced the price reduction in a statement on Monday, saying the decision forms part of efforts to support airline operators and ensure stable fuel supply nationwide.

It also disclosed plans to introduce a 30-day interest-free credit facility for marketers and airline operators backed by bank guarantees, alongside a transition from dollar-based pricing to a naira-denominated payment structure for Jet A1 transactions.

According to the company, the measures are expected to strengthen the aviation value chain and reduce financial burdens on operators facing rising operational costs.

The development comes amid growing concerns over the high cost of aviation fuel, which has significantly increased operating expenses for domestic airlines and contributed to higher airfares.

Some airline operators had earlier warned that continued increases in Jet A1 prices could lead to route cuts, flight reductions and further hikes in ticket prices.

The federal government had also intervened in recent months through discussions involving airline operators, fuel marketers and regulators to prevent disruptions in fuel supply and stabilise the aviation sector.

In April, airlines threatened to suspend operations nationwide following a spike in aviation fuel prices, which reportedly rose above ₦3,000 per litre due to global market pressures and geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.

Industry stakeholders believe the latest reduction by Dangote Refinery could improve airline cash flow and help moderate domestic airfares.
