Man arraigned in Ibadan for allegedly stabbing ex-wife
A 46-year-old man, Olaniyi Fakeye, on Tuesday appeared before a Grade ‘A’ Customary Court sitting in Mapo, Ibadan, over allegations of assaulting his ex-wife with a broken bottle.
Fakeye was arraigned on a two-count charge bordering on breach of peace and assault. He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him by the police.
The prosecuting counsel, Insp. Ayodele Ayeni, told the court that the alleged offences were committed on March 25 at about 9:30 pm at the staff quarters of the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan.
Ayeni alleged that Fakeye attacked his ex-wife, identified as Bosede, and stabbed her on the shoulder with a broken bottle, inflicting serious injuries.
According to the prosecutor, the offences contravene Sections 249 and 355 of the Criminal Code, Cap. 38, Vol. II, Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
The President of the court, Mrs S. M. Akintayo, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Akintayo ruled that the sureties must provide valid means of identification before the bail conditions could be perfected.
The case was subsequently adjourned until June 11 for hearing.
