Ndume secures APC ticket for fifth term in Senate
Ali Ndume, a former Senate Leader, has won the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket for Borno South Senatorial District.
Ndume emerged unopposed through an affirmation process at the primary election held in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital
The lawmaker became the consensus candidate after Abdullahi Askira, his main rival, withdrew from the race last month
Askira, the Deputy Speaker of the Borno State House of Assembly, said his decision followed consultations and appeals from party stakeholders in the senatorial district
Speaking after he was declared the winner, Ndume thanked APC stakeholders, delegates, and party members in the district for their support.
He said: “I want to thank our elders in Borno South Senatorial District for their unwavering support for me.
“I want to reassure them that I will continue to promote their interest at all times.”
Ndume also commended Askira for stepping down from the contest and urged party stakeholders to remain united ahead of the general election
He said: “I must not fail to commend Honourable Askira, who listened to persuasions and appeals of the party leaders and took the decision to drop his aspiration.
“Your loyalty to the party is exemplary.
“Continue to work as one united political family as the country prepares for the general election.”
If elected in 2027, Ndume will secure a fifth term in the Senate, extending a legislative career that began with four years in the House of Representatives before his transition to the upper chamber.
