Adamawa begins 2026 malaria prevention campaign

The Adamawa State Government has commenced its 2026 seasonal campaign to protect residents against malaria.
The exercise involves the administration of malaria medicines to children and the distribution of mosquito nets to households.
Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, during the flag-off of the programme on Thursday, said the 2026 Integrated Seasonal Malaria Chemoprevention (SMC) and Insecticide-Treated Net (ITN) Campaign aims to reduce the burden of malaria across the state.
The campaign is expected to include the distribution of 2.583 million insecticide-treated mosquito nets, as well as the administration of 4.5 million doses of antimalarial medicines to children aged between three and 59 months.
Representing Governor Fintiri at the flag-off in Yola was his deputy, Professor Kaletapwa Farauta, who described the event as a milestone in the state’s collective efforts to combat malaria.
She said the government recognises malaria’s devastating impact on families and communities and remains committed to implementing effective interventions.
“The success of malaria control efforts relies heavily on strong partnerships,” Farauta said, commending implementing partners, including the Society for Family Health (SFH), Management Sciences for Health (MSH), and Catholic Relief Services (CRS), for their collaboration.
Speaking during the event, the Programme Manager of the State Malaria Elimination Programme, Benjamin Nashon, appreciated the state government and partners for their commitment to eliminating malaria.
