Algeria came from behind to defeat Jordan 2-1 in a World Cup Group J fixture on Monday, eliminating the Asian debutants from the tournament.
Nizar al-Rashdan had given Jordan the lead, but Amine Gouiri levelled matters before Nadhir Benbouali struck the winner for Algeria in the 82nd minute in Santa Clara.
The victory keeps Algeria’s hopes of advancing to the knockout stage alive, with the North Africans needing to beat Austria in Kansas City on Saturday to progress. Both Algeria and Austria are level on three points each in the group.
Argentina sit top of Group J on six points after Austria suffered a 2-0 defeat to the South Americans earlier on Monday.
Jordan, who bow out of the tournament having failed to win a game, will face Argentina in Arlington, Texas on Saturday in their final appearance at the World Cup.
