Alleged N1.2bn Fraud: Court Orders Interpol To Release Sick-Suspect Unconditionally 

The Alleged Fraud Suspect, Alaba Adejare Adebajo, Ordered To Be Released By Interpol

Justice Ahmed Ibrahim Kala of a Federal High Court, Lagos, has ordered the Commissioner of Police in charge of International Police (Interpol) section of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (ForceCID) Annex Alagbon-Ikoyi Lagos, to release an alleged fraud suspect, Alaba Adejare Adebajo, over ill-health unconditionally.

The suspect, Alaba Adejare Adebajo, is being detained by the Interpol since May 23, 2026, after his extradition from Ghana, over alleged £1, 295, 000 million BPS.

He was billed to be arraigned in court on Tuesday, on a two counts charges of obtaining the sum under false pretence and stealing, on June 16, but the Interpol failed to produce him. The situation which made the trial judge to order his production in court today.

Specifically, the defendant is charges before the court in a marked FHC/L/605c/2026, which reads: “That you Alaba Adejare Adebajo ‘M’, sometimes between 2021 in Lagos, within the jurisdiction of this Honorable Court did obtained the sum of One Million Two Hundred and Ninety Five Thousand Pounds (£1, 295, 000: 00)) from one Kalejaiye Ayodeji under the guise of an investment scheme which will yield interest, a representation you knew to be false and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 1(a), (c) and punishable under section 1(3) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Related Offences Act 14 2006, 

“That you That you Alaba Adejare Adebajo “M’, on the same date, time and place, and in the aforementioned Judicial division, did stole the sum of One Million Two Hundred and Ninety Five Thousand Pounds (£1,295,000:00)) from one Kalejaiye Ayodeji and thereby committed an offence contrary to section 383 and ble under section 390 (a) of the Criminal Code Cap C38 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004.”

But the resumed hearing of the charge today, the prosecutor, Barrister S. O. Ayodele told the court that the defendant was unable to be in court due to health complications issue.

The prosecutor read a medical report addressed to ‘to whom it may concerned’, before the court.

He however apologized for inability to produce the defendant in court.

However, the defendant’s lawyer, Barrister Lawrence Oiseomoje, informed the court that the police had acted in disobedience to an order of the court made on Tuesday, which ordered that the defendant be produced today.

“It would be recalled on that day that after my lord said we should call the police to bring the defendant to court, we called back but they declined.

“On the same day, the Commissioner of Police and others failed to obey, they have not shown to court why they disobey. They want to continue extorting my client. This is four weeks he has been in their custody.

“If they are not unable to bring him to court, we will be asking for an order dismissing the charge against him. 

“On the strength of the prosecutor that the defendant is ill, we urge the court to release him on bail.

“He has committed $50,000 USD to the police and has his international passport with them (police)

In ordering unconditional release of the defendant, Justice Kala after citing some sections of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA) 2015, held that: “in view of the prosecutor’s submission he (defendant) is hereby admitted to bail pending his arrraignment.

“The Commissioner of Police Interpol section of the ForceCID Annex Alagbon-Ikoyi Lagos, is hereby order to release the defendant unconditionally.”
