The son of Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, Shamsuddeen Bala Mohammed, has appealed to his father to intensify efforts to settle outstanding gratuities owed to retirees in the state in order to ease their financial burdens.
Shamsuddeen made the appeal in a social media post titled “Bridging the Gap: A Call for a Human-Capital Focused Policy,” in which he acknowledged the achievements of his father’s administration in infrastructure development over the past seven years, noting that the construction of roads, schools, and hospitals had transformed the landscape of Bauchi State and would be remembered by future generations.
However, he drew attention to the plight of civil service retirees and their families who continue to await the payment of their gratuities, stressing that the prolonged delay had compounded hardship across many households.
“The prevailing sentiment on the ground is that while infrastructure is vital, it does not alleviate the immediate economic hardship, the struggle for daily sustenance, or the pain of families still awaiting civil service gratuities, hence, the need to pay retirees’ gratuities,” he said.
