Bauchi Storm Disaster Leaves Two Dead as Heavy Rain and Windstorm Wreck Homes in Kirfi

A heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds has claimed the lives of two persons and destroyed several houses and property in Bara community, Kirfi Local Government Area of Bauchi State.

The victims were identified as 50-year-old Aisha Sagir and her four-year-old granddaughter, Aisha Shuaibu, both residents of Unguwar Katsinawa in Bara Village.

The Bauchi State Police Command confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Wednesday by its spokesperson, SP Nafiu Habib, saying the tragedy occurred on Tuesday following a downpour accompanied by a severe windstorm.

According to the statement, apart from the loss of lives, the rainstorm destroyed several houses, livestock and other valuables estimated to be worth millions of naira.

Operatives attached to the Kirfi Divisional Police Headquarters visited the affected area to assess the extent of the damage and maintain law and order.

The state Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, extended his condolences to the government and people of Kirfi Local Government Area, expressing deep sympathy to the bereaved family and praying for the repose of the souls of the deceased.

“The Commissioner of Police expressed deep sympathy to the bereaved family and the entire people of Kirfi LGA.

He prayed to Almighty Allah to grant the deceased eternal rest and give the family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss,” the statement read.

The command further assured residents that it would continue to collaborate with relevant agencies to support disaster response efforts and safeguard lives and property across the state, while urging the public to remain vigilant during the rainy season and promptly report emergencies to security agencies for swift intervention.
