FG approves holistic reform for NYSC and for it to be led by a civilian

The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved a comprehensive reform of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), marking the first major review of the scheme since it was established 53 years ago.
As part of the reforms, the FEC directed the Attorney-General of the Federation and the Federal Ministry of Youth to amend the NYSC Act and its regulations to incorporate the approved changes and enable the immediate implementation of the new framework.
One of the key changes is that the NYSC’s operational leadership will now be headed by a civilian, while the military will continue to provide security for corps members nationwide.
According to the government, the reforms are aimed at transforming the NYSC into a skill-driven, productivity-focused and youth-empowerment institution that aligns with the administration’s goal of building a $1 trillion Nigerian economy.
