Four Arrested, One Killed as Police Crack Major Kidnap Case in Edo

The Edo State Police Command has arr£sted four suspects and k!lled one in connection with the k!dn@pping of a woman at a vegetable market in Benin City on June 14, 2026.

According to a statement by the state Police Public Relations Officer, Eno Ikoedem, operatives of the Intelligence Response Team arrested one Marvelous Isaac, 32, on June 18 during a gun duel, while another suspect identified only as Precious was n£utralised in the process.

Three additional suspects Gift Raphael, 27, Wisdom Michael, and Rufus Michael were subsequently arr£sted on June 20 during separate operations carried out across Benin City and parts of Delta State.

Items recovered from the suspects included a red Lexus RX 350 SUV with registration number EKP 848 AE, said to have been used in the @bduction; a pump-action shotgun; two live cartridges; cash totalling ₦2,050,000; and a motorcycle.

All four suspects have made conf£ssional statements linking them to the incident and other cr!minal activities in the state.

The v!ctim, a woman who had gone shopping with her husband and children, was reportedly s£ized by gunm£n who stormed the market off Airport Road.

An eyewitness account shared online described the moment of the @bduction, with one onlooker saying it was the first time she had ever witnessed such an incident firsthand.

The Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, commended operatives for their professionalism and urged residents to remain vigilant and continue providing timely information to security agencies.
