I didn’t deserve it. It should have gone to one of Ghana’s players’ – Bellingham after winning MOTM
Jude Bellingham has admitted that he did not feel he deserved the Player of the Match award after England’s 0-0 draw with Ghana at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The Real Madrid midfielder was given the official award after his strong performance in the match, but he said a Ghana player should have received the honour instead.
“I didn’t deserve it. It probably should have gone to one of their lads,” Bellingham said after the match.
His comments came after Ghana produced a strong defensive display to stop England’s attack and secure a valuable point.
Ghana goalkeeper Benjamin Asare played a key role, making six important saves to keep another clean sheet in the tournament.
The Black Stars stayed organised and disciplined throughout the match, frustrating England’s attacking players and moving closer to reaching the knockout stage for the first time since 2010.
Bellingham’s reaction has received praise from football fans, with many applauding his honesty and respect for Ghana’s performance.
For Ghana, the recognition from one of England’s top players highlights the team’s defensive effort and growing reputation at the World Cup.
