With the local government election drawing near, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has intensified its campaign in Ovia South West Local Government Area of Edo State, as Deputy Governor, Hon. Dennis Idahosa, declared that the party would campaign in every part of the council to secure victory.

Speaking with journalists in Iguobazuwa on Tuesday, June 30, after the first round of campaign stops, Idahosa said the APC was leaving nothing to chance in its bid to win the election.

He said the campaign, which began on Wednesday, June 17, had already covered Udo Ward, Iguobazuwa East and Iguobazuwa West, with the remaining wards to be visited before the exercise moves to the unit level.

“We started campaigns today. First was at Udo Ward, then Iguobazuwa East and Iguobazuwa West Wards. We visited those three wards and the turnout was amazing.

“This election will be keenly contested, but we are very sure that APC will win. We have 10 wards in Ovia South West. We have visited three and we will be visiting the others before cascading it into unit campaigns. We are not taking this election for granted. We are going to campaign in the nooks and crannies of Ovia South West to ensure that the APC wins the day,” he said.

Idahosa described the APC chairmanship candidate, Mr Anthony Osarobo, as a vibrant young man and said Ovia South West was witnessing the emergence of a new political era. He appealed to residents to vote massively for the party to make the vision a reality.

On his part, Osarobo expressed satisfaction with the turnout at the campaign events, saying it reflected the confidence of the people in the APC and the Edo State Government.

“The turnout is high. It shows they believe in us and Edo State,” he said.

During the campaign tour, the APC leadership in Ovia South West formally presented Osarobo and his running mate, Mr Isaac Bakare, to the people, while councillorship candidates in the wards visited were also introduced and given the opportunity to interact with residents and canvass support.

Party leaders who addressed the people included the APC Chairman in Ovia South West, Mr Emmanuel Ogbomo; member representing Ovia South West Constituency in the Edo State House of Assembly, Hon. Sunday Aghedo; Prof. Ikponmwonsa Omorodion; and the Special Assistant on Youth Mobilisation, Mr Christopher Iyase.

Also lending support to the campaign were the Women Leader, Mrs Adesuwa Ajari, and Mrs Angela Okpamen, who urged voters to rally behind the APC candidates.

The campaign train was marked by music, dance and fanfare, as supporters and candidates wore T-shirts and fez caps bearing the images of the candidates and the APC logo.
