As it works to combat the spread of counterfeit and expired goods, the Kano State Consumer Protection Council (KSCPC) has cautioned merchants, manufacturers, and distributors to make sure that only safe and high-quality products are sold in the state.
The council said in a statement released on Wednesday that it is stepping up market surveillance to get rid of outdated, inferior, and counterfeit goods.
The council is dedicated to safeguarding customers and upholding standards throughout Kano markets, according to the statement, which was signed by Jamilu Mustapha Yakasai, Director of Consumer Education and Public Enlightenment.
Strict steps have been put in place to identify and prevent dangerous items before they reach the public, according to Dr. Ibrahim Garba Muhammad, chairman of the council.
“We have robust mechanisms in place to detect and seize counterfeit and inferior products. Additionally, our officers are permitted to conduct surprise inspections in stores, marketplaces, and manufacturing facilities,” he stated.
He cautioned that enforcement teams could come to any company location at any time to make sure rules are being followed.
The council urged business owners to interact exclusively through approved channels and voiced concerns about scammers pretending to be its officials in order to extort businesses.
He cautioned that “all interactions with the council must be done through official means to avoid falling victim to imposters.”
Additionally, consumers were urged to use greater caution while purchasing commodities, particularly food and household items.
Before making a purchase, customers must take the initiative to thoroughly review product details. The chairman said, “Always check ingredients, manufacturer details, and expiration dates.
