N5bn suit: Obi should ask me if he needs money to campaign – Okonkwo

Kenneth Okonkwo, actor and politician, has reacted to a pre-action letter from the legal team of Peter Obi, Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, which demands ₦5 billion in damages over alleged defamatory remarks.
Okonkwo, responding to the development, insisted that Obi should have made a personal request if he needed campaign support instead of pursuing legal action.
“It has been brought to my notice that there is a letter circulating online from the hypocrite, Peter Obi, and his lawyers that I should pay him N5b. Hahaha! If Peter Obi is looking for money to campaign, he should privately ask me for assistance, not come from extortion, and I will help him,” he said.
He further claimed that during his time as Obi’s spokesperson, he personally funded some campaign-related expenses, including flight tickets and hotel accommodation.
Okonkwo also warned that any lawsuit could lead him to reveal sensitive information gathered while working within Obi’s political camp.
He stated that he had not yet fully reviewed the legal letter but insisted that he would respond once he does.
According to him, certain details he possesses were withheld out of principle but could be disclosed if legal action proceeds.
Okonkwo maintained that he would formally reply to the demand letter after reading it.
