NDC throws jab at Obi, Kwankwaso, says “We’re not an SPV to be used and dumped after elections”

The National Democratic Congress, NDC, has declared that it will not serve as a Special Purpose Vehicle, SPV, for politicians seeking electoral victories, insisting that the party is being built as a strong and enduring political institution.

The party also directed that all affiliated groups and non-governmental organisations operating under its platform must function under its guidance and control, warning against parallel structures.

These resolutions were contained in a statement issued on Sunday by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Nosa Director, following the second meeting of the National Executive Committee, NEC.

According to the statement, the NDC remains committed to strengthening party supremacy and ensuring that governments elected on its platform operate in consultation with party structures.

“The NDC is committed to building the party as a strong and enduring institution, with emphasis on party supremacy. The programmes, policies and appointments, except personal staff, of all governments elected on the platform of the party must be made in consultation with the party structure,” the statement said.

The party stressed that members must place the collective interest of the organisation above personal ambitions and work towards its long-term growth and sustainability.

To strengthen internal cohesion, the NEC inaugurated a National Reconciliation Committee charged with reconciling aggrieved members and promoting unity across the party.

The NDC also announced plans to introduce a comprehensive Code of Conduct for party officials and candidates. It disclosed that a committee headed by the National Legal Adviser had been established to develop the framework and operational guidelines for the code.

The party further directed that all affiliated groups and NGOs must operate strictly within the party structure.

“All affiliated groups and NGOs shall operate under the guidance and control of the party and must not function in parallel with, or independently of, the party structure,” the statement added.

Reaffirming its vision, the party said it was determined to build a lasting institution rather than a personality-driven movement.

“The NDC is being built as an institution, not a personality cult, political movement, or Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) to be used and discarded,” it stated.

The party also pledged to enforce strict financial accountability among its officers and candidates, insisting that party resources must be used solely for legitimate party activities.

It directed that all campaign funds sourced by candidates or contributed to campaign accounts must be fully disclosed to the party at the appropriate levels and channelled through designated party campaign accounts.

The NDC urged members, aspirants and elected officials to maintain unwavering loyalty to the party and always place the national interest above personal ambitions.
