Oro Festival: Lagos announces change in BECE timetable

The Lagos State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education has announced a slight adjustment to the ongoing 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination timetable.
This is contained in a press release signed by the State Examination Board’s Registrar, Adebayo Orunsolu, on Tuesday.
The LSEB boss in the release disclosed that the development followed the declaration of the Oro Festival in parts of the Ikorodu Division on Wednesday, July 1, 2026 and after due consultation with relevant stakeholders.
Consequently, Orunsolu pointed out that the state government has approved the postponement of all BECE papers earlier scheduled for Wednesday, July 1, 2026.
He confirmed that the affected examination papers will now be written on Tuesday, 7th July 2026, while all other examination papers will be conducted on their previously scheduled dates.
“This decision has been taken as a precautionary measure to safeguard the lives of candidates, examination personnel, and other stakeholders, as well as to ensure the smooth and orderly conduct of the examination without disruption.
“The Board regrets any inconvenience this change may occasion and solicits the understanding and cooperation of parents, guardians, school administrators, candidates and the general public.
“Candidates are advised to obtain the revised examination schedule through their respective schools and make adequate preparations for the rescheduled papers” Orunsolu stated.
He assured that the LSEB Lagos remains steadfast in its commitment to conducting credible, transparent, and hitch-free examinations in line with the educational aspirations of Lagos State.
The Eagleonline reports that the ongoing BECE took off in the six Education Districts of Lagos State and was previously scheduled to last between Monday, June 29 and Monday, July 6, 2026.
The shift has however extended the termination date of the examination to Tuesday, July 7, 2026.
