Osun APC asks Adeleke to explain N14.9bn security votes

The Osun State APC Governorship Campaign Council has called on Governor Ademola Adeleke to explain the deployment of operatives of the Osun Amotekun Corps and account for N14.9 billion in security votes reportedly accessed by his administration.

In a statement issued on Monday, the council’s Director-General, Oluwole Oke, expressed concern over reports that some Amotekun personnel were assigned to duties at a private energy facility in Ondo State.

According to the council, information available to it showed that dozens of Amotekun operatives were stationed at Pacific Energy Company in Omotosho Village along the Benin-Ore Road in Ondo State.

Oke said the reported deployment raised questions about the use of personnel of the state-backed security outfit at a time when communities in Osun were facing security challenges.

He said: “It is both shocking and unacceptable that personnel recruited, trained and funded with the resources of Osun State taxpayers could be diverted from their constitutional responsibility of protecting the people of Osun to serve as guards for a private family business located outside the state’s territorial jurisdiction.”

The council also referred to the reported death of an Amotekun operative, Abdullahi Adedeji, following injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident while travelling to Ondo State for an assignment.

The statement said: “The officer in April 2026 was involved in a motorcycle accident on his way to Ondo to report at the duty post, sustaining severe head injuries.”

Oke added that information available to the council suggested the officer did not receive adequate support after the incident.

He said: “Tragically, the officer reportedly died afterwards due to the absence of proper medical care and support.”

The APC campaign council also questioned the management of security funds by the state government, stating that records available to it showed Governor Adeleke had accessed N14.9 billion in security votes.

Despite the reported expenditure, Oke argued that there had been no visible expansion of security assets available to agencies operating in the state.

He said: “Despite the enormous resources at its disposal, the government has not added any security assets to the operational fleet inherited from the previous APC administration.

“No single bicycle, let alone a vehicle, has been provided for the use of the security agencies.”

The council also challenged explanations it said had been offered regarding the spending of the security funds.

Oke said: “It is more worrisome and scandalous that the Adeleke Campaign Council is now explaining that the N14.9 billion accessed by the governor has been used solely for the operation and honorarium of the operatives of the Amotekun Corps.”

He maintained that residents deserved greater transparency on security spending and called on the governor to account for the use of the funds.

Oke said: “The Governor must also explain to the people of Osun why operatives of the Osun Amotekun Corps were deployed to protect private business interests belonging to his family outside Osun State while insecurity continues to threaten lives and livelihoods across our communities.”

The Osun State Government had not issued an immediate response to the concerns raised by the APC Governorship Campaign Council as of the time of filing this report.

Efforts to obtain a reaction from the Commissioner for Information were unsuccessful as of press time.
