Panic in Lagos as police react to school attack threat, deploy security

The Lagos State Police Command has reassured residents that there is no verified intelligence indicating an imminent bandit attack on any school in the state following reports of a threatening notice allegedly pasted at a school warning of a planned abduction of pupils.

The development was disclosed in a statement issued by the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, on June 8, 2026.

According to the statement, the Command became aware of reports circulating about a notice allegedly threatening an attack on a school and immediately initiated measures to assess the situation.

The police said there was currently no confirmed intelligence suggesting that any bandit group was planning an attack within Lagos State but assured residents that all security concerns were being treated seriously.

The statement noted that the Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai, had ordered an immediate assessment of the situation and directed the deployment of enhanced security measures across the affected area and other strategic locations in the state.

Police personnel, working alongside other security agencies, have also been deployed to schools, critical infrastructure and communities as part of efforts to strengthen security.

“The Command wishes to reassure parents, guardians, school authorities and all residents that there is presently no verified intelligence indicating any imminent threat of such an attack within Lagos State,” the statement said.

The police further stated that Lagos remains secure and warned that any individual or group attempting to create fear, panic or insecurity among residents would be dealt with in accordance with the law.

“The Command will not tolerate any attempt by miscreants, bandits, kidnappers or other criminal elements to threaten the peace and safety of residents,” the statement added.

The Command urged residents to remain vigilant and continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies, stressing that public cooperation remains essential in preventing crime and maintaining security across the state.

Residents were also advised to promptly report suspicious movements, persons or activities to the nearest police station or through the Command’s emergency lines.
