Public officials who steal public funds to build mansions and acquire vast assets should have their mansion demolished – Sowore tells FG

Human rights activist and former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has demanded that the Federal Government demolish the mansions of corrupt politicians, arguing that properties acquired through the theft of public funds should face the same penalties as those used by kidnappers.

Sowore’s demand follows the Oyo State Government’s recent demolition of a three-bedroom apartment in Ibadan. The property was reportedly used by kidnappers to hold Mrs. Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul—sister to a former Minister of Power—and her 12-year-old twin sons, Peter and Paul, hostage.

In a sharp critique of government policy, Sowore maintained that if the administration is committed to destroying properties linked to criminal activity, the law must be applied equally. He insisted that the lavish estates of corrupt public officials and treasury looters deserve immediate demolition under the same legal and moral prin

His post reads

”There is no reason why the demolition of houses should be limited only to  k!dnappers.

 

If the government truly believes that property acquired through or used for  criminal activity should be destroyed immediately, then the same principle must apply to politicians, Public treasury looting is a form of k!dnapping too, it k!dnaps healthcare, education, jobs, infrastructure, and the future of millions of Nigerians.
