Reps Minority Caucus appoints Afam Ogene as spokesperson

The Minority Caucus of the 10th House of Representatives has appointed Afam Victor Ogene as its new spokesperson.
The development was announced in a statement issued on Saturday by the Minority Leader of the House, Fredrick Agbedi, who disclosed that the appointment received approval during an online meeting of the caucus held on Friday, June 19, 2026.
Ogene, who represents Ogbaru Federal Constituency of Anambra State, currently serves as the leader of the Nigeria Democratic Party, NDP, caucus in the House of Representatives.
According to the statement, the Anambra lawmaker was selected based on his extensive legislative experience, strong grasp of parliamentary procedures, and commitment to democratic governance.
The caucus noted that Ogene, a ranking member of the House and former journalist, is expected to coordinate communication between the Minority Caucus and the public, while articulating the group’s position on national issues and legislative matters.
It added that his role would also include strengthening the caucus’s constitutional responsibility of providing oversight and holding the Executive arm of government accountable.
The statement further described Ogene as an accomplished journalist and editor whose experience in public communication would enhance the caucus’ engagement with Nigerians and reinforce democratic principles within the National Assembly.
“The Caucus is confident that his appointment will strengthen its engagement with citizens and reinforce the principles of checks and balances in the 10th Assembly,” the statement read.
The Minority Caucus also called on members of the media and the general public to support Ogene in the discharge of his new responsibilities.
