Swinney: Scotland can make World Cup history against Brazil

Scotland can “make history” by reaching the knockout stages of the World Cup, the First Minister has said, as the team gets ready to play its final group match against Brazil.
John Swinney said the squad could “make themselves legends” in Miami against the five-time World Cup winners.
Steve Clarke’s side faces the prospect of making it out of the group stage for the first time ever, even if they do not beat Brazil.
The team won its first match against Haiti 1-0 but lost its second against Morocco 1-0.

In a message to Scotland’s men’s side, Mr Swinney said: “Scotland’s men’s national team have shown amazing grit and determination during their World Cup campaign so far.
“Their performance on the pitch has been matched by the spirit of Scotland and its fans – in Boston, Miami and here at home.
“The Tartan Army has captured the imagination of millions and I know that the team will have been inspired by their support.
“I know they can make history by reaching the knockout stages of the World Cup for the first time – the team have the chance to make themselves legends tonight.
“I want to offer the best of luck to Steve Clarke and the whole team. The whole of Scotland, and I suspect many Americans, are right behind you.”
