Terrorists attack Kebbi community, abduct resident

Armed terrorists have reportedly attacked Tsamiya town in Kebbi state, setting buildings ablaze and abducting a resident during a late-night assault on Saturday.

The Kebbi state police command confirmed the incident, stating that the attackers stormed the town, fired shots indiscriminately, and set several structures ablaze, including a makeshift checkpoint belonging to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, a local brothel, and a residential building belonging to one Sule Mai Goge.

During the attack, the gunmen also abducted Alhaji Yusuf Bazamfare before escaping into nearby areas.

In a statement issued on Sunday, SP Bashir Usman, Police public relations officer said the commissioner of police had ordered the immediate deployment of additional tactical units to the affected community to prevent further escalation.

He explained that security operatives responded swiftly upon receiving distress reports and have since reinforced their presence in Tsamiya and surrounding villages.

According to him, a full-scale investigation has commenced, while coordinated search-and-rescue operations are ongoing to secure the release of the abducted victim and apprehend those responsible for the attack.

The command urged residents to remain calm, vigilant, and supportive of security agencies by providing credible intelligence that could aid ongoing operations, assuring that normalcy would be restored soon.
