The coverage, which began two weeks ago on the YouTube Channel, is being anchored by seasoned analyst, Adekunle Salami.
With over 30 years in journalism and coverage of no fewer than 50 international sports competitions, including two FIFA Men’s World Cup, Salami is bringing to bear on the analysis experience only few have in the country.
Anchored by the Managing Editor of The Eagle Online, Dotun Oladipo, The Eagle Online Nigeria will be dedicating a chunk of its programme: “Sport Update,” to the World Cup.
There will be two regular editions on Mondays and Thursdays throughout the duration of the World Cup, which kicks off on June 11, 2026 and ends on July 19, 2026.
It will be the first FIFA World Cup to be co-hosted by three countries: United States of America, Mexico and Canada, and will feature an expanded format of 48 teams competing in 104 matches.
The media platform said its coverage would focus on providing expert information, in-depth analysis and interviews aimed at enhancing the viewing experience throughout the competition.
Fans are expected to receive match results, highlights, commentary, and expert insights during the tournament.
Salami, a former Group Sports Editor of PidomNigeria Newspapers for several years and now Deputy Editor with New Telegraph, will analyse the new tournament format, emerging rules, and other key issues surrounding the World Cup.
The programme will also feature a segment dedicated to statistics and lesser-known facts about the competition, including information on the tallest, shortest, oldest, youngest, and fastest players participating in the tournament.
For the website, Adeyemi Moronfolu and Oladipo will also provide the needed insight, details and up to speed information throughout the World Cup period.
