Tinubu Declares Wike Has Not Disappointed Him as Abuja Transformation Continues

President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday declared that the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, has not disappointed him in the discharge of his duties, explaining that Wike continues to deliver on the assignment of transforming Abuja into a world-class city under his administration.

The President made this known during the inauguration of the Federal High Court Judges Quarters in the Katampe area of Abuja, part of a series of projects marking his third year in office.

Tinubu, represented at the event by Vice President Kashim Shettima, commended Wike’s performance, recalling that when he assigned the FCT Minister the task of transforming the capital, he already had confidence in his capacity to deliver.

He noted that from fixing critical road networks to ensuring the timely completion of projects such as the Judges Quarters, Wike had demonstrated that performance remains the only currency that truly matters in public service.

Tinubu also commended the leadership of the judiciary for its collaboration with the executive arm of government, describing the intergovernmental harmony as beneficial to Nigerians. He pledged that his administration would continue providing infrastructure aimed at easing the responsibilities of judicial officers.

He expressed appreciation to the judiciary’s leadership, noting that the ongoing collaboration between the executive and judiciary under his administration stood as a model of intergovernmental harmony geared toward the collective good of the people.

Addressing the judges who would occupy the new quarters, he stated that the nation looks up to them, noting that the Renewed Hope Agenda is anchored on equity and justice, and that in exchange for the infrastructure being provided to ease their work, the administration expects swift, free, and fair dispensation of justice in return.

He urged that judgements emanating from the judiciary continue to strengthen the fabric of the nation’s democracy, noting that while reforms across all sectors, including Abuja’s transformation, may require patience, the results were already beginning to show, and the administration would not relent until every sector of the economy and justice system reflected the nation’s true potential.

The President described the inaugurated project as a testament to political will and the outcomes of disciplined effort, stating that the commissioning was not merely about unveiling buildings but about fortifying a vital pillar of the country’s democracy, the judiciary.

He explained that the Renewed Hope Agenda represented a sacred covenant with Nigerians, built on promises to strengthen institutional trust, secure the nation, and ensure the rule of law remains neither compromised nor delayed, noting that the commissioning of the housing units represented a step toward fulfilling that pledge.

He argued that judicial independence cannot be discussed in the abstract, as independent thought requires an equally independent environment, stressing that judges cannot be expected to dispense justice without fear or favour if their comfort, security, and peace of mind are left unattended.

He maintained that true judicial independence is built on upholding the dignity of judicial officers, noting that the provision of the state-of-the-art quarters would ensure that Federal High Court judges operate from a place of security, comfort, and dignity.

He described the project as a deliberate safeguard against vulnerability and a clear statement of the value Nigeria places on the interpretation of its laws.
