Troops neutralise two suspected Lakurawa terrorists, recover arms in Kebbi

Troops of Sector 2, Joint Task Force North-West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have killed two suspected Lakurawa terrorists and recovered arms and ammunition during an operation in the Sabarumawa axis of Kebbi State.

The operation was carried out on June 27 following intelligence reports that the terrorists were planning an attack on Sabarumawa community.

The Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, Lt.-Col. Aliyu Danja, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday.

According to him, troops of the Chief of Army Staff Intervention Battalion 7 swiftly mobilised to the area and established a tactical ambush along the suspected route of the terrorists to thwart the planned attack.

“The successful operation followed credible intelligence indicating that the terrorists were planning an attack on the Sabarumawa community.

“Acting swiftly on the information, troops mobilised to the area and established a tactical ambush along the terrorists’ suspected route of advance in order to foil the planned attack,” Danja said.

He explained that the troops engaged the terrorists in a gun battle as they approached the ambush position.

“As the terrorists approached the ambush position, the troops engaged them with overwhelming firepower, resulting in a fierce gun battle.

“The superior combat effectiveness of the troops forced the terrorists into disarray, with two of the terrorists neutralised, while the remaining members of the group fled into the surrounding forest,” he added.

Danja said troops recovered two AK-47 rifles, two AK-47 magazines, 143 rounds of ammunition and a motorcycle during the operation.

He reaffirmed the commitment of Operation FANSAN YAMMA to sustaining offensive operations against terrorist groups and other criminal elements operating across the North-West.

According to him, the operation remains focused on protecting lives and property while intensifying efforts to dismantle terrorist and criminal networks in the region.

He also urged members of the public to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible information to strengthen ongoing counter-terrorism operations.
