Black Stars superfan Obour, one of Ghana’s most iconic football supporters, was left outside the venue of Ghana’s 2026 FIFA World Cup clash against England after being denied entry due to a ticketing problem, in an incident that has drawn significant sympathy and frustration from Ghanaian football fans.

Obour, instantly recognisable in his full white body paint, traditional regalia and large Ghana-flag decorated pot balanced on his head was pictured visibly crestfallen outside the stadium after officials turned him away.

“When I was entering, they said I didn’t have a ticket,” he said.

The video, captioned with a call for the Ghana Football Association to do better, has circulated widely online with many fans expressing dismay that one of Ghana’s most dedicated and visible supporters a man who travels to tournaments in full traditional costume to rally behind the Black Stars was unable to get into the match.

The GFA has faced calls online to ensure that prominent figures within Ghana’s supporter community are adequately catered for in the ticketing process at major tournaments.

Ghana face England in what is a significant Group L fixture at the 2026 World Cup.
