‎‎Twisted doctor, 29, admits secretly filming 900 hospital staff after hiding phone in toilets to spy on colleagues

A medical doctor has admitted secretly filming 900 hospital staff after hiding his phone in the toilets to spy on colleagues.

‎Dr Ryan Yi Cho, 28, pleaded guilty in a Melbourne court to 13 charges including producing an intimate image, installing a devices and stalking.

S‎A court heard he allegedly possessed more than 4,500 images and around 160 videos of undressed work colleagues.
‎
‎The doctor claimed he had secretly filmed hundreds of fellow employees in bathrooms and showers at several different hospitals since 2020.
‎
‎At least five locations across the city were allegedly targeted by Cho, including the Austin Hospital, Royal Melbourne Hospital and the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre.
‎
‎The doctor covered his face in shame and stayed silent as reporters approached him outside Melbourne Magistrate’s Court in Australia on Tuesday, July 7.
‎
‎Cho pleaded guilty to charges including producing intimate images, installing optical surveillance devices, stalking and failing to comply with a direction to assist police.
‎
‎He has been bailed until November 23 when he will face a pre-sentence hearing.
‎
‎During the session, he is expected to give an explanation for his actions to hundreds of unsuspecting victims for the first time.
‎
‎The court also heard that the stalking charge was related to just one victim.
‎
‎Cho allegedly took 104 intimate videos and 3,424 photos of the woman without her consent.
‎
‎He also admitted to “accessing her property and personal documents and images”, the court heard.
‎
‎The former doctor faces several years behind bars but currently remains free in the community after his wealthy parents paid £25,000 bond.
‎
‎Cho had initially been remanded in custody, but was released after a successful appeal to the Supreme Court.
‎
‎He also replaced his legal team with lawyers from Doogue and George, known for representing accused Beef Wellington poisoner Erin Patterson. 
‎
‎A court previously heard how Cho grew up in Singapore and had no prior criminal history.
‎
‎The suspect was arrested initially on July 10 last year after a phone hidden in a mesh bag was discovered in a staff toilet at the Austin Hospital in Melbourne.
‎

‎Examinations of his electronic devices led investigators to lay out several new allegations.
‎
‎On July 25, the court heard local police found 10,374 video and image files of Cho’s alleged victims on several devices.
‎
‎They allegedly contained videos and images of both men and women using hospital bathrooms.
‎
‎Cho has been banned from every hospital he has previously worked at and had his medical licence suspended.
‎
‎Local cops previously told the court that Cho was a “devious” offender who knew exactly what he wanted and how to go about it.
‎
‎Senior Constable Neral Baykur said at an earlier hearing: “The accused has demonstrated in his level and pattern of offending that he is calculated and obsessed.
‎
‎“The accused devoted enormous amounts of time and effort into keeping his colleagues under surveillance in their bathroom facilities.
‎
‎“[He went] to lengths to tamper with surrounding toilets to divert victims into where he set up and concealed his device, only to spend more time downloading and categorising the intimate footage and storing it on his laptop.”
‎
‎The court heard Cho allegedly captured hours of footage by hanging mesh bags with phones inside on the back of staff toilet doors.
‎
‎One clip allegedly lasted three hours and is said to have captured multiple employees in states of undress.
‎
‎Dozens of women are now seeking compensation from Austin Hospital, Royal Melbourne Hospital and Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre. 
‎
‎The hospitals are facing complaints for allegedly failing to prevent this type of s£xual assault from taking place.
