Alleged N15m corruption: Ex-CCT chair, Danladi Umar, remanded in Kuje

THE Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Thursday arraigned a former chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT), Danladi Umar, before the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) for allegedly using his office to confer unfair advantage upon himself to the tune of N15 million, as the court remanded him at Kuje Correctional Centre.
The commission brought the former CCT boss before Justice Peter Kekemeke, sitting at Maitama, Abuja, on a four-count charge, marked FCT/HC/CR/233/26 bordering on using his office to confer unfair advantage on himself.
Danladi, who also doubled as the chairman of Code of Conduct Tender’s Board, was accused of having, on October 5, 2021, received the sum of N5.5 million paid into his wife’s account by Kurchmivers International Ltd, a subcontractor awarded to handle internal and external painting of the Code of Conduct headquarters.
EFCC further alleged that on January 25, 2024, N6 million was paid into his wife’s account by Realities Ltd, a sister company of JTF Global Links Ltd hired for digitalisation of the Code’s management records.
The prosecution also accused the defendant of conferring advantage to himself by allowing a company handling contractor for the Code to transfer tuition fees for his two children in Baze University amounting to N4 million.
These, according to the anti-corruption commission, were in contravention of the provisions of Section 19 of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act, 2000.
Umar, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges when read to him in the open court.
Justice Kekemeke remanded the defendant at the Kuje Correctional Centre and adjourned to July 15 for hearing of the bail application.
