Delta: Transformer breakdown impairs essential services at DELSUTH

Essential medical services at Delta State University Teaching Hospital (DELSUTH), Oghara, have been severely impaired following the breakdown of the transformer serving the institution, as patients and health workers bear the brunt.

A statement by the Association of Resident Doctors, DELSUTH, signed by its President, Dr Aghogho Isaac; Secretary-General, Dr Ogochukwu Nwochuku; and Public Relations Officer, Dr Asogwa Chijioke, noted that healthcare delivery will remain constrained until the installation of the transformer is fully completed and energised.

While expressing deep concern over the continued disruption of critical healthcare services at the state’s only teaching hospital, the doctors said the hospital has been forced to rely on generators that provide only a few hours of electricity daily.

They called on the contractors handling the installation of the transformer donated by the Delta State Government, the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC), and all relevant stakeholders to expedite action to restore electricity, stressing that stable power is critical to saving lives, preserving medical equipment, and ensuring quality healthcare services.
