FAAN launches probe into AVSEC, passenger altercation at Osubi airport

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has commenced an investigation into a viral video showing an encounter between an Aviation Security (AVSEC) officer and a passenger at Osubi Airport in Warri, Delta State.
The incident, which has generated widespread reactions on social media, allegedly involved an AVSEC officer who insisted that a female passenger could not travel with tins of milk and other canned food items in her luggage.
Reacting to the development, FAAN, in a statement issued on Sunday by its Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Mr Henry Agbebire, said the Authority had taken note of the video and was treating the matter with the seriousness it deserves.
According to the statement, the Managing Director/Chief Executive of FAAN has directed an immediate investigation to establish the facts and circumstances surrounding the incident.
“The Managing Director/Chief Executive of FAAN views the matter with utmost seriousness and has directed an immediate investigation to establish all the facts and circumstances surrounding the incident,” the statement said.
FAAN reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining the highest standards of professionalism, aviation safety, security and customer service across all airports under its management.
It added that the outcome of the investigation would determine the next course of action.
“The outcome of the investigation will guide any further action that may be considered necessary. Should the investigation establish any breach of FAAN’s operational procedures or professional standards, appropriate administrative and disciplinary measures will be taken in accordance with the Authority’s regulations,” the statement added.
The Authority assured the travelling public that it remains committed to ensuring that airport operations are conducted in line with global best practices while safeguarding passengers’ rights and maintaining robust aviation security standards.
