FG opens applications for laptop, smartphone credit scheme + Step-by-step guide

The Federal Government has opened applications for its newly launched consumer credit scheme designed to give Nigerians affordable access to laptops, smartphones and tablets through flexible payment plans.

The initiative is known as the Credit for Laptops, Internet, Connectivity and Knowledge Digital Devices (C.L.I.C.K.D.) Programme.

It is being implemented by the Nigerian Consumer Credit Corporation (CREDICORP) in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy.

The programme was unveiled in Abuja by the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr Bosun Tijani, alongside the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of CREDICORP, Uzoma Nwagba.

The scheme is aimed at enabling Nigerians to acquire digital devices through structured repayments instead of paying the full cost upfront, with locally assembled laptops taking priority under the programme.

How to apply

Applicants are required to visit credicorp.ng/clickd, the official C.L.I.C.K.D. portal, and click the “I’m Interested” button to access the application form.

They will then provide details including their state of residence, employment status, monthly income (optional), participation in any recognised digital talent programme, the type of device required and the reason for requesting the device.

Applicants must also indicate how they heard about the programme before confirming that the information supplied is accurate, agreeing to be contacted regarding the application and consenting to CREDICORP and its partners using the information to assess their eligibility.

Who qualifies

For now, the programme’s initial rollout is limited to 1,000 laptop beneficiaries under the Federal Government’s Three Million Technical Talent (3MTT) Programme.

According to Nwagba, the pilot phase began in Abuja, where 77 beneficiaries have already received devices, while the remaining laptops will be distributed to qualified fellows across other states in phases.

Although the application form also lists participants from programmes including Andela Learning Community, Learn2Earn, ALX Africa, HNG Internship, AltSchool Africa and Genesys Tech Hub, CREDICORP has so far publicly confirmed only 3MTT fellows as beneficiaries of the current 1,000-laptop pilot.

The corporation is yet to announce the interest rates, repayment period or down-payment requirements for the C.L.I.C.K.D. device loans.
