Guaranty Trust Bank Ltd. has been named the Best Overall Performing Bank in Nigeria in The Banker magazine’s Top 1000 World Banks Rankings for 2026.

The flagship banking subsidiary of Guaranty Trust Holding Company Plc clinched the top spot in the highly anticipated global ranking, which evaluates financial institutions based on audited financial results, according to the bank’s statement on Tuesday.

Reacting to the landmark achievement, the Managing Director of Guaranty Trust Bank Ltd., Miriam Olusanya, expressed immense gratitude to the bank’s internal and external stakeholders, noting that the accolade reflects a collective effort.

“Being named the Best Overall Performing Bank in Nigeria by The Banker is a recognition that means a great deal to us, not just because of the prestige of the publication, but because of what it represents: the hard work of our People, the loyalty of our customers, and the strength we continue to draw from being part of the Group,” Olusanya said.

She further emphasised that the top rankings in efficiency and soundness were direct results of the bank’s structured internal policies and its collaborative relationship with its parent holding company.

“Ranking first in Overall Performance, Efficiency, and Soundness reflects our disciplined approach to banking, the synergies we harness across the GTCO Group, and our relentless focus on delivering real value,” she added.

The assessment rigorously measures performance across critical metrics, including financial strength, operational efficiency, risk management, liquidity, growth, and profitability.

In addition to securing the number one spot overall, GTBank dominated key operational categories, ranking first in both “Efficiency” and “Soundness.” The bank also demonstrated robust versatility by securing second place in Return on Risk, Liquidity, Growth, Leverage, and Profitability.

Rather than resting on its laurels, the bank’s leadership views this global recognition as a catalyst for further innovation and improved customer relations in an increasingly competitive African banking landscape.

“We do not take this recognition for granted. It deepens our resolve to keep raising the bar, to serve our customers better every day, and to remain a bank that consistently delivers value to all its stakeholders, and to the GTCO Group we are proud to belong,” Olusanya concluded.

Industry analysts point out that this latest milestone solidifies GTBank’s status as one of Africa’s most resilient banking franchises. The bank’s continued investment in digital innovation and its disciplined business model have consistently allowed it to navigate macroeconomic headwinds while delivering long-term value for its shareholders, customers, and communities.
