Gunmen k!ll female farmer, injure another in Plateau community


A 40-year-old female farmer, Mrs. Hudung Luka, was k!lled and another woman injured after gunmen attacked farmers in Rinyan village, Tahoss community, Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The attack occurred at about 3:50 p.m. on Saturday, July 4, 2026 while the victims were working on their farm.
The assailants reportedly opened fire before fleeing the scene.
The deceased d!ed at the scene, while Mrs. Ladi Istifanus, 50, sustained gunshot injuries and was rushed to a medical facility for treatment.
Community member Bulus Rop described the incident as another tragic attack on farming communities in Riyom and urged security agencies to intensify efforts to protect rural residents and apprehend those responsible.
The National Publicity Secretary of the Berom Youth Moulders Association (BYM), Rwang Tengwong, also condemned the attack, calling for the immediate arrest and prosecution of the perpetrators.
He appealed to both the Plateau State and Federal Governments to strengthen security in vulnerable communities.
As of the time of filing the report, the Plateau State Police Command had not issued an official statement on the incident.
