Major update after mum found dead in home as police search for 'asylum seeker'

Police have issued a major update after a mum was found beaten to death in her home, with officers launching a huge manhunt for the suspect. A Garda spokesperson has confirmed a person of interest left Ireland before the victim’s body was discovered.

International law enforcement agencies are now assisting the murder investigation into the death of 43-year-old Jamey Carney, who was found dead at her home on Muckross Road in Killarney, Co Kerry, on Tuesday. In a statement issued on Thursday, Gardaí said: “An Garda Síochána are continuing to investigate all the circumstances surrounding the discovery of the body of a female at a domestic residence in Killarney on Tuesday 7th July 2026. The scene at Muckross Road, Killarney remains preserved, and a technical examination of this location is continuing. An Garda Síochána is satisfied that a person of interest in this investigation left the jurisdiction in the early hours of Tuesday 7th July prior to the body of the deceased female being discovered and reported to An Garda Síochána.

“As part of this ongoing investigation An Garda Síochána is engaging with international Law Enforcement partners.”
