Obidient Movement reacts to reported removal of Tanko as National Coordinator by Obi

The Obidient Movement has reacted to reports alleging that its National Coordinator, Dr. Yunusa Tanko, was removed from office by the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

This was contained in a statement on Thursday by Onyeka Dike on behalf of the Movement’s Media and Communications Directorate.

The group described the reports as false and urged members of the public to disregard them.

The Movement said Obi had neither removed Tanko from any position nor authorised anyone to announce such a decision, maintaining that he remains its recognised national coordinator.

It also said no individual or group had been authorised to issue statements on Obi’s behalf on the matter, adding that official communications will be conveyed through recognised channels.

The Movement expressed concern over what it described as the emergence of unauthorised groups and individuals claiming to speak for Obi or the Obidient Movement ahead of the 2027 general elections.

It also refuted claims that the movement was aligning with or defecting to any other political party, saying those making such claims are expressing personal opinions and did not represent the Movement.

The group urged Nigerians, its supporters and the media to verify political statements through its official communication channels before accepting or disseminating them.

It further called on security agencies to investigate the source of the disputed publication and take appropriate action in accordance with the law.

The Movement reaffirmed that it remained organised under its recognised leadership and advised the public to disregard statements issued by unauthorised individuals claiming to represent Obi, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, or the Obidient Movement.
