President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed profound sadness over the passing of elder statesman, former Minister of Finance, and distinguished diplomat, Alhaji Abubakar Alhaji, at the age of 85.

Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, made this known in a statement he issued on Thursday.

Alhaji was an iconic figure in Nigeria’s public administration, whose illustrious career spanned decades of dedicated service as a permanent secretary, federal minister, and Nigeria’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom.

Reflecting on the monumental loss, President Tinubu described the late Sardauna of Sokoto as a titan of public service, a consummate bureaucrat, and a patriot whose intellectual depth, fiscal discipline, and diplomatic dexterity left an indelible imprint on the nation’s economic and political evolution.

He extended his heartfelt condolences to the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar III, the Sultanate Council, and the entire royal family over the transition of the illustrious prince.

He also commiserated with the Government and the people of Sokoto State, as well as the associates and numerous mentees of the late statesman across the country.

President Tinubu prayed Almighty Allah to forgive the shortcomings of the deceased, reward his services to humanity with Al-Jannah Firdaus, and grant his family the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss.
