TikTok removed 4.8m violative videos in Nigeria in Q2 2026

TikTok says it removed more than 4.8 million videos in Nigeria during the first quarter of 2026 as it stepped up enforcement against harmful content and expanded its AI safety measures.

The platform disclosed this in its Q1 2026 Community Guidelines Enforcement Report, stating that the removed videos accounted for 0.6% of all content uploaded by Nigerian users during the period.

According to TikTok, 99.8% of the violating videos were detected and removed proactively before users reported them, while 92.8% were taken down within 24 hours. Globally, the company removed more than 184 million videos during the quarter, representing 0.5% of all uploads, reflecting continued investment in content moderation and safety systems.

TikTok also increased enforcement on TikTok LIVE in Nigeria, suspending 120,000 LIVE sessions for violating its Community Guidelines, around 40,000 more than in the previous reporting period. Worldwide, the platform carried out more than 58 million LIVE enforcement actions, including the suspension of over 50.7 million LIVE sessions and warnings or demonetisation for nearly 22 million creators.

The company attributed part of its enforcement success to collaborations with Nigeria’s Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) and civil society organisations. On artificial intelligence, TikTok said it removed more than 118,000 Nigerian posts under its policy covering edited media and AI-generated content during the first quarter.

Globally, the platform also removed more than 86 million fake accounts in an effort to reduce AI-generated spam and protect users from misleading content. TikTok added that more than three billion videos have now been labelled worldwide as AI-generated using Content Credentials, creator disclosure tools and invisible watermarking technology.

The company said it prohibits harmful or misleading AI-generated content and requires creators to label realistic AI-generated media to improve transparency. As part of announcements made at the AI for Good Global Summit in Geneva, TikTok unveiled new initiatives aimed at strengthening AI literacy, improving transparency and tackling AI-generated spam.

The company also announced it had joined the Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity (C2PA) Steering Committee to help develop global standards for AI transparency and content authenticity. TikTok said it plans to launch an in-app AI Literacy Hub for Nigerian users in the coming weeks, providing educational resources on identifying AI-generated content and using AI responsibly.

The platform added that it has committed more than $4 million to its AI Literacy Fund and is working with organisations including the Centre for Journalism Innovation and Development (CJID) and Paradigm Initiative to promote AI education in Nigeria.

According to the company, these partnerships have generated more than 200 million views since the programme launched in November 2025, highlighting growing demand for trusted AI literacy content. TikTok reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, saying it has redesigned its Community Guidelines Enforcement Reports to improve accessibility and provide expanded enforcement data across more markets.
