A 47-year-old teacher, Mrs. Dim Ebere, has surrendered to the Anambra State Police Command after she was declared wanted over the alleged flogging to death of a 12-year-old pupil.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the suspect turned herself in at the Neni Police Station in Anaocha Local Government Area following an intensive manhunt by operatives.

According to SP. Ikenga, the pupil allegedly died from injuries sustained after being flogged at a school in Adazi-Enu, prompting the Command to launch an investigation.

He said the suspect’s surrender followed sustained operations by the Safe School Protection Squad, working with officers of the Neni Divisional Police Headquarters and community leaders in Adazi-Ani.

The suspect will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Awka, for the conclusion of investigations.

The Command assured the bereaved family that justice would be served and urged members of the public to remain calm and support ongoing investigations.

“To this end, the Command commends the cooperation of the Adazi-Ani community, the traditional institution and other stakeholders whose support contributed to the suspect’s surrender.

“The family of the deceased and members of the public are hereby assured that the Command remains committed to ensuring that justice is served,” SP. Ikenga stated.

As of press time, the police had not released the name of the deceased pupil or the identity of the school where the incident occurred recently.
