UK construction worker dies after falling from Birmingham children's hospital day after Prince Harry visit

A construction worker died after falling from a height at Birmingham Children’s Hospital on Friday, prompting a joint investigation by police and workplace safety authorities, a day after Prince Harry visited the facility during his UK tour.Emergency services rushed to the hospital shortly before 10 am following reports that a man had fallen while carrying out construction work on the site. Despite the efforts of first responders, he was pronounced dead a short time later.The incident occurred just a day after the Duke of Sussex visited Birmingham Children’s Hospital as part of his trip linked to the countdown to the 2027 Invictus Games, which will be hosted in Birmingham.Birmingham Women’s and Children’s NHS Foundation Trust confirmed the incident in a statement, saying: “There has been an incident at a construction site at Birmingham Children’s Hospital. Our sympathies are with the family and friends of the individual involved. Support is being provided to those who have been affected.”The worker is believed to have been employed at a construction site operated by BSN Group Construction. The company said it was “deeply saddened” by the fatal incident and extended its condolences to the victim’s family, friends and colleagues.The firm added that it is cooperating fully with West Midlands Police, the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and other relevant authorities. It said it would not comment further while investigations are ongoing.West Midlands Police said officers were called to the hospital after receiving reports that a man had fallen from the building shortly before 10 am.The victim was declared dead at the scene, and specialist agencies are now examining the circumstances surrounding the fatal fall.The cause of the incident remains under investigation by police and the HSE.
